Renny- AKA JAWS from the ‘Spy who loved Me’

This is Renny, Renny can chew through brick! She was born 13/02/21. I adopted her at 7 months old along with her sister Rou from Bongo Fury rats. They had previously been much loved but handed in due to a change of circumstances. Renny is the most affectionate, cuddly, empathetic, kind rat you will ever meet, she really is very special- and is a wonderful care giver for the babies. Ren only has one single vice in life (if you can call it that, as she is a rat!) and that is she eats and chews EVERYTHING!

Renny is supervised very carefully on free run times, mainly with my ears, as her knashers are like heat seeking missiles. Her motto in life is why jump over something when you can just chew through it- including the ratty room brick walls (no joke!) Her cage is a palace strewn with pieces of log, sticks, ‘appropriate’ safe chew toys, enrichment feeders, other toys, etc, but it’s those forbidden items that really get her drooling for more! The more you shoo her away from something, the more she really MUST eat it. “Mum stop being so mean! Can’t you see it belongs between my teeth!!”

In fact the only thing Ren doesn’t eat is human- not one nibble, ever- I am guessing flesh just isn’t her thing. What she does do (which warms my very soul) is if I am ever upset, she comes and finds me, sits on my head, and gently grooms me, massaging my scalp with her little hands and licking with her tiny tongue. Better then any Indian head massage ever!

The second I stop being upset, often cracking into a laugh or smile, she hops off with an air of “my work here is done” and skips away to find something new and forbidden to chew. Unfortunately I won’t be breeding from Rou, due to her unknown lines, propensity to demolish everything, and slight allergies- but if it was based on empathy alone, I would, as to me she is flipping perfect!
